Woodside is a town incorporated in San Mateo County, found along the San Francisco Peninsula. The small town is said to be listed among the wealthiest areas in the United States and is managed by a council management form of government. The town was originally home to natives of the Ohlone tribe, Spanish explorers led by Gasper de Portola in 1769 in search of San Francisco Bay made camp on a side near Woodside. The town is known to be the oldest English-speaking settlement along the San Francisco Peninsula southern part. The town’s first English-speaking settlers made their arrival in the early 19th century to explore and take advantage of redwoods. The first sawmill in Woodside was constructed by Charles Brown on his Mountain Home Ranch back in 1838 of which the house still stands today. By 1849, a 20-year-old Mathias Alfred Parkhurst during the California Gold Rush bought 127 acres of timberland and named it “Woodside”.Woodside is known to be small but very peaceful, pleasant and family-friendly, the town is home to some great places like Woodside Bakery and Café, Woodside Pun and the Woodside Store County and Museum. Woodside is comprised of schools like Woodside Elementary School, Woodside High School, and the Sequoia High School.
