San Mateo is a western Californian city and county. The city sits in the San Francisco Peninsula along the Northern California’s Bay Area approximately 31 miles northwest of San Jose and 20 miles south of San Francisco. The city has an additional advantage of its location at the shores of San Francisco, sheltered from the ocean fog and wind by the hills, the city enjoys a mild maritime climate.The city has become metropolitan with several multistory buildings in the downtown area. San Mateo has great shopping and business that serve the surrounding areas residents. San Mateo’s community college was founded back in 1922 and the city is also home to the San Mateo County Expo Center and the Bay Meadows Race Track. Some must go to areas are the Central Park, having a traditional Japanese tea garden and the Coyote Point Museum, found in Coyote Point Park dedicated to providing environmental education. The Hayward Bridge of San Mateo extends to the San Francisco Bay area. The city has restaurants from a variety of cultures like Asian; Thai Satay and Little Shanghai, Mexican; Taquería Pancho Villa and La Cumbre Taquería, American; Fletch’s Hot Dogs and Jeffery’s Hamburger.In terms of real estate, the city has great properties to offer in some quite expensive neighborhoods. The average home in the city is known to have four bedrooms as compared to the whole country with an average of four and a half bedrooms for same class homes. It has also been noted that almost half (49%) of homeowners in the San Mateo community don’t live in their homes compared to the 35% national average. Many of the homes are rented out for people who work in the area or kept as second homes.
