San Martin is known as a census-designated area in the County of Santa Clara, California. The community took its name from St. Martin of Tours, the Patron saint of early pioneer Martin Murphy, who built the first Catholic Church in the area. Like neighboring cities, Gilroy and Morgan Hill, San Martin is a known producer of wine, garlic, and table mushrooms. The San Martin community has been trying to incorporate into either a town or a city since 2004 but no official action or progress has been made to date. The community benefits from the moderating influence of the Pacific Ocean as it enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate. San Martin sits near a U.S. freeway Route 101 and is home to the South County Airport. All transportation needs in the area are covered by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, commuter rail stations and buses provided by Caltrain. The area offers residents top schools like the San Martin/Gwinn Elementary School, Jackson Academy of Music and Math and Rucker Elementary School. Some restaurants in the area include the Big Grill BBQ and Teriyaki, San Martin Café and Jonty’s Vietnamese Eatery. The San Martin real estate market is taking an uplift with a rising home value of 22.6% in the past year and it is predicted to rise 13% next year.
