Monte Sereno is an incorporated city in the county of Santa Clara, California. The city is found northwest of Los Gatos, 10 miles southwest of San Jose and southeast of Saratoga. Monte Sereno is well known for its 2,580-foot El Sereno Mountain from which its name was derived and the southern part of the city is built on the slopes of the mountain. The community is known for its highly residential community with over 99% of single-family housing. Monte Sereno wasn’t a mill town like most of its neighbors and as for its hilly and wooden topography, no significant agriculture was developed in the area which is one reason the city has no downtown. The city was slowly created with the gathering of orchards, ranches, dairies and a few large estates. The city offers unique views from its mountaintop with some great restaurants like Jack Rose Libation House and the Oak and Rye and top places like the Vasona Lake County Park, Lexington Reservoir, Oak Meadow Park and the New Museum Los Gatos in close proximity. Being a highly residential area, some of the city is served by schools from Saratoga and Los Gatos like Saratoga High School, Foothill Elementary School, and the Saratoga Elementary School.
