Gilroy is a city found in the county of Santa Clara, Northern California, north of San Benito County and south of Morgan Hill. The city is best known as the Garlic Capital of the World where the annual Garlic Festival is held every July. The festival features several garlicky foods like garlic Ice cream. Gilroy is also known for its mushroom and boutique wine production which takes a considerable part of the city’s western land mostly made of family estates around the west to the Sana Cruz Mountains. Gilroy had a peaceful reputation in the past making it an ideal environment for everyone with its award-winning parks, recreational programs and golf courses in addition to its urban forest for which the city has been able to win the Tree City USA awards annually since 1979. Gilroy can make a perfect residential area being family friendly. Several community resources and facilities have succeeded to place the city on top in recent surveys measuring the city’s living standard in Bay Area cities. Some community facilities created in the past years are St. Louise Regional Hospital, expended Senior Center complex at Sixth and Hanna streets and Wheeler Manor (senior residence). Gilroy has a great respect for history which has helped build an interesting and lively town center. The city offers mature neighborhoods which, combined with new homes, create an ambient atmosphere for schools, residential areas, churches and parks.
