Burlingame, a Californian city in San Mateo County, got its name from diplomat Anson Burlingame. Burlingame is well known for its high residential living standard with a walkable downtown area and excellent public school system. Burlingame is found on land previously owned by a San Francisco-based merchant William Davis Merry Howard. He marked his property, on which he retired to live on, by planting a good number of eucalyptus trees. Howard died in 1856, which resulted in the land being sold to a prominent banker, William C. Ralston who named the land after his friend Anson Burlingame. People started residing in this area after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. People looking to establish new homes were sold land in the area which brought about the town of Burlingame sooner in 1908. Burlingame is now known as a city of trees with public trees numbering in the range of 18,000 within the city. The Burlingame city has a lot to offer its residents with two main shopping areas namely the Burlingame Avenue and Broadway which attract a wide variety of shoppers both within and outside the city coming to explore its boutiques. The city is home to fresh farmer’s market every Sunday morning both in summer and fall, yearly Art in the Park Fair and a Jazz concert in Washington Park.Burlingame is said to be more family-centric than its surrounding neighborhood because 40.57% of households have families and children.
